A true Belgian Gem. Dimitri's collection and crosses are the equivalent of what Belgian beer and chocolate represent, Belgian excellence. I had the luck to meet him once on a public sales day. Got some amazing plants from him.
Shop description
Kwekerij de Zoetewei is a small-scale Belgian nursery in Putte (near Mechelen), founded by Dimitri Jacobs out of a passion for edible plants, specialising in rare and unusual fruit species (an exceptionally broad list including kiwi, pawpaw, citrus, guava, persimmon, mulberry, jujube, passion fruit, pomegranate and many more), Andean root vegetables (oca, ulluco, yacon, crosne, mashua and relatives), sweet potatoes, unusual vegetables (artichoke, aubergine, chayote, exotic peppers, bamboo, etc.), culinary and medicinal herbs, and bee-attracting plants — all propagated in-house on their own 1.5-hectare plot. Sales follow a seasonal calendar: Andean tubers from mid-December, rooted sweet-potato cuttings from April to mid-May, and grafted fruit trees from mid-August onward; customers include garden centres, distributors, pick-your-own farms and professional growers, as well as hobby gardeners during twice-yearly open-garden weekends.
In-depth review
This is not a webshop like the others but worth mentioning. This nursery is open to the public 2 weekends a year (in May and August). If you live in or ever visit Belgium during that time of the year. Fucking GO
They sell lots op hybrids (prunus crataegus, pyrus, citrus...), Pawpaws, lost vegetables... A day there is a day well spent.
